Dr. Dale Okorodudu, also known as Dr. Dale, is a doctor, speaker, and author who loves helping young people believe in themselves and go after big dreams.
He created the Jamal’s Journal series to show kids that it is okay to feel nervous, awkward, or unsure sometimes, and that courage is about facing those moments instead of running from them. Through Jamal’s adventures, Dr. Dale hopes readers will laugh, see themselves in the stories, and learn how to handle real life challenges with confidence.
Dr. Dale grew up in League City, Texas and later moved to Missouri, where he went to college and medical school. He trained as a doctor at Duke University and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Along the way, he learned that success does not always look the way people expect, and that you should never let someone else decide what you can become.
One of the moments that shaped Dr. Dale’s life happened when he was a college student flying home for the holidays. A stranger sitting next to him on the plane spent the entire flight telling him he would never be successful. At the time, he was just a kid in a hoodie and sweatpants. What she did not know was that he was on his way to becoming a doctor. That experience taught him how powerful words can be, and how important it is to believe in yourself even when others doubt you.
Dr. Dale thanks his parents for teaching him the value of hard work, patience, and curiosity. He credits his dad for inspiring his work ethic and his mom for encouraging him to solve problems and never give up. He also thanks his siblings and his wife for supporting him and believing in his mission.
Today, Dr. Dale is passionate about mentoring and creating stories that help kids grow in confidence. His goal is simple, to use books, education, and encouragement to help young people become strong, thoughtful, and brave both inside and outside the classroom.
When he is not writing or working as a doctor, Dr. Dale enjoys spending time with his family and cheering kids on as they chase their goals.
